Having right style and type of Wardrobe that goes well with your bedroom attire could be finicky job. With easy access to internet and people, we often pick up ideas and desire fashionable wardrobes like celebrities. We often forget that there’s difference in preferences.
Every wardrobe style are designer with different specifications and individual needs. Know what’s’ yours. And before you jump into the process, here are few tips for how to choose bedroom to help you not get back to drawing board.
Style of Wardrobe
Wardrobe are either carpenter-made wardrobes or you have Modular Wardrobes that come in standard sizes. You have a very famous saying, “Every Coin has 2 Sides”, similarly there are pro’s and cons’ on each of them.
Carpenter made Wardrobes can be made as per your design, style, space availability and other requirements. While Modular Wardrobes are factory-made wardrobes. These are machine made furniture. These are therefore available in standard sizes, designs and style. You have limited choices as far as color combinations, wardrobe outer finish is concerned. Which is not the same with Carpenter-made Wardrobes.
But, the finish that Modular Wardrobes deliver are unmatched. Since these are machine, made, the surfaces are pressed down with high pressure machines and appear as one material. While carpenter made wardrobes is not the same.
Storage style
Well there are numerous different elements one need to take care of while planning to have Wardrobes. This is not to scare you, but to prepare you have correct furniture for your bedroom. Don’t over exert. Many have gone through similar process. Be it buying ready-made of getting it made. And they have successfully come out of this tight spot and achieved elegant Wardrobes for their rooms.
Firstly make a list of different style of clothing, accessories, etc. you want to store in your wardrobes. Based on this list sections are decided.

With drawers you can have complete access to what is stored right inside which is not the same with shelf storage option. But surely for few storage items shelves serve better.
To sum it up, a Wardrobe cannot be complete with 3 basic storage type i.e. hanging options, Shelves and Drawers.
Measurements
Depth – The depth shall be 24” strictly for Wardrobes. 24” depth offers maximum storage and easy hanging for saris and blazers. Wardrobes with more depth will seem an inappropriate design. One will not be able to reach out for inner stored items easily. Also lesser depth wardrobes wouldn’t serve efficient storage option.
Height – To hang Sari an d Blazer neatly, the hanging section shall be 42” in height.
Shelf and drawer – The height and width of shelf can vary as per space availability and requirement.
Overhead Storage – If you getting Wardrobes made or buying a modular set-up, its always beneficial to have overhead storage. Anyways the upper space would get wasted otherwise. Overhead storage provides ample of storage options. We all have so many things that we probably use or need once in a while. Here you can place all such items. Another advantage is that you can get it made for dirt cheap rates.
Let’s say your ceiling height is 9’ and you getting a 7’ wardrobe made. The rest of the 2’, you can have overhead made. All you need to do is have openable shutters made. These shutter will open towards the ceiling. They save on space and at the same time allow easy access to stored items.
Door Style
Choose form Swing type doors and sliding doors as per space availability and your style.
