Firstly let’s understand what is Putty?
Putty is white cement base coating. It is said that putty is one type of plaster to wall. One type of Plaster, but not exactly plaster. This is called as skin/skim coat. Putty is a mixture of cement and sand. The cement used for lambi putty is white cement and consists calcium carbonate sand. This white cement is nothing but the stone dust which is white in color. Sand i.e. calcium carbonate also is stone dust whose color is different than white cement. The color difference is because of silicon present in sand. This cement-sand mixture is combined with polymer that acts like plaster.

Putty done to wall usually is not more than 2mm to 3mm. a thicker layer of putty will not stay on wall. One of the reason is the type of sand used for putty. To have thicker plaster i.e. of 20mm-25mm sand of thicker quality or stone chips is used. . You see there is no much of difference in these 3 accept for the sand quality used. You can therefore go for waterproofing.

For waterproofing, 2 components need to be prepared- (i) white cement content and (ii) polymer content. Preparing this component isn’t a costly affair.

Usually for a wall POP plaiting is done followed by putty plaiting/flatting. Here plaiting will not be done. Since waterproofing coating is applied, there will be no damage caused to plaster. You may notice dampness on wall due to which just the paint is affected.

Heavy duty Coatings

There are various other materials like Dr. Fixit Dampguard, EPOXY, etc. coating available in market today. But these are all heavy duty coating coasting more than double the price then the polymer solution. The polymer solution say will cost around Rs.15-Rs.20 whereas heavy duty coating will cost around Rs.100 and more.

Wall Putty is not much understood by homeowners. Many do not know the importance and benefits of doing wall putty.

Wall Putty or Wall POP or Wall Punning – all have the same goal . To make the surface of the wall even. Fill gaps/holes/ cracks. This is done after plaster / brick work is done. This allows you to create a smooth straight layer / finish to the wall.

If you want to find out if some wall is wavy, go near the wall, and try to look sideways in bright light, you will find out if the wall surface is wavy..

Wall Leveling with wall putty in Home Interior

Wall Putty helps you to eliminate this waviness on wall surface. It makes wall surface straight & smooth. On top of this painting can be done to get best results..

This is done only for interior surfaces, never done for exterior surfaces. This is not meant to withstand heavy rain & sun on its surface. Absolutely interior application only.

Depending upon line/level of brick work done, putty level can be around 4 to 8 mm.

Newly plastered walls can cause cracks in first few months, thus causing cracks in paint job. However punning done on wall avoids these kind of cracks.

Experienced purpose is required to do this job, because although it looks like an easy task, but requires judgment & eye to make the surface in the correct line & level.

Wall putty material is white powder which makes wall smooth & gives even finish to wall.

Protect your floor while this work happens. If your floor tiles are already fixed or existing flooring is there, make sure you dont spoil it whisk doing wall POP work..

Wall surface which will get tiles (or skirting tiles), do not require this task. Make sure your contractor does not charge you for area which will go under tiles.

Usual rate of wall POP is Rs 30 – to Rs 35. More rate if work requires lot of accuracy. For rough/easy work, you may get lesser rates as well,

Grove between Punning & Tiles/Floor
A grove is created between the line where punning ends & Skirting tile or flooring starts. This is done to avoid future cracks possibility.
