Marble is a metamorphic rock that developed from limestone. Marbles are available in different colours like, white, pink, green, etc. White marble is most commonly and widely used for flooring.

There are 2 main markets in India where White marble is sold; both are in Rajasthan, (i) Udaipur and (ii) Makrana. White marble coming from Makrana and surrounding places are of better quality then the ones coming from Udaipur. The whiteness of Makrana marble is more, also doesn’t get stained easily as compared to Udaipur marble. And that’s the Makrana white marble are expensive then Udaipur white marble.

How can one say whether it’s a Makrana marble or Udaipur marble by looking at it?

Well, its very difficult to recognise between the two at a glance. A person belonging to similar field of having marble know-how can say if it’s a Makrana marble or Udaipur marble. As it is difficult to recognise, many dealers buy Udaipur marble for lower rate and sell in Makrana and nearby places for higher rate. So next time if you wanna buy marble go with a person from similar field.

How are these White Marble priced?

The prices of a marble depend on its size. Marble is available in different sizes like 1’x1’, 2’x2’, 1’x1.5’, 1.5’x2’, etc.  These small marble pieces are probably the cut-outs that are left overs during flooring work. White marbles cost as low as 50/- per sq. ft. You have big slabs of white marble in market. These slabs can be 6’ x 4’, 6’x5’, 8’ x 4’ and bigger in size. These slabs cost around Rs 80/- to Rs 100/- per sq. ft.  depending on whiteness and size. More the whiteness of the marble, the rate of the marble increases.  Marble can be as expensive as Rs 1,000/- per sq. ft.
